Summary

Attribution and licensing cleanup before the repo goes public. Everything stays under Apache-2.0. BasePeak GmbH holds the copyright on the fork's modifications.

  • LICENSE: no changes. It is the full Apache-2.0 text, and the appendix boilerplate has no filled-in copyright line to keep.
  • NOTICE (new): names the project and says it is a fork of https://github.com/gptscript-ai/gptscript, originally developed by Acorn Labs, Inc. and the gptscript-ai contributors. It carries Copyright 2024 Acorn Labs, Inc. and Modifications Copyright 2026 BasePeak GmbH, both Apache-2.0, plus the maintained location. Upstream had no NOTICE file, so there was nothing to carry over.
  • Apache-2.0 §4(b): NOTICE and README both state that BasePeak GmbH has modified files since the fork on 2026-06-13 and that git history records the changes. No per-file headers.
  • README:
    • Adds a "Fork notice / Attribution" block at the top.
    • The License section now lists Acorn Labs (original work) and BasePeak GmbH (modifications).
    • Install instructions now point to Forgejo releases and go install git.basepeak.dev/basepeak-ai/gptscript@latest. Removed: Homebrew, get.gptscript.ai/install.sh (the domain no longer resolves) and winget install gptscript-ai.gptscript.
    • The "Try it" links go to the in-repo docs/docs/02-examples/* pages instead of upstream's docs.gptscript.ai.
    • The upstream Discord is replaced by the Forgejo issue tracker.
  • docs/:
    • 01-overview.md and 09-faqs.md get the same install-channel fix, and the Discord badge is gone.
    • docusaurus.config.js: editUrl and the source links now point to Forgejo (label "GitHub" -> "Source"), and the footer copyright lists both holders.

Left as-is / follow-ups

  • github.com/gptscript-ai/llm-basics-demo, used as the example script, still exists but is archived upstream. It is kept for now; we could mirror it under basepeak-ai later.
  • docusaurus.config.js still has the upstream Discord link and mailto:info@acorn.io "Contact Us" in the navbar. Replacing them needs a BasePeak contact address and community channel decision.
  • Other docs still reference upstream in places: docs/docs/03-tools/01-using.md (raw.githubusercontent example URL), the 02-examples/05-workflow.md sample output (Acorn tweets), the FAQ SDK links to github.com/gptscript-ai/{py,node}-gptscript, the GITHUB_AUTH_TOKEN FAQ and 01-cli.md's "open an issue in gptscript-ai/gptscript" prompt. These are examples or historic content, not branding.
  • go install ...@latest only works for anonymous users once this repo and its git.basepeak.dev/basepeak-ai/* module dependencies (broadcaster, chat-completion-client, cmd, tui, go-gptscript) are public. Until then it needs GOPRIVATE=git.basepeak.dev plus credentials. The releases page has the same limit.

Add a NOTICE file that credits the upstream gptscript project (Acorn
Labs, Inc. and the gptscript-ai contributors), records BasePeak GmbH's
copyright on modifications, and states that files were modified since
the fork on 2026-06-13 (Apache-2.0 section 4(b)).

Add a fork notice to the README, list both copyright holders in the
License section, and replace the upstream install channels (Homebrew,
install.sh, winget, Discord) in the README and docs with Forgejo
releases and go install.

CI check: every failing job fails the same way on main @ 77d3fcb (runs #318/#320/#321) and on the earlier PR #20 (#314-#317), so they are pre-existing. test/integration (ubuntu) fail because go mod download cannot read private git.basepeak.dev modules (could not read Username). validate-docs fails because the DinD volume mount leaves /docs/package.json missing. smoke/check-label fails in jq (Cannot index string with string "name") and the smoke model jobs are skipped. The windows-latest jobs stay pending because there is no runner. I built the docs locally (node:18-buster, npm install && npm run build in docs/) and the build succeeds with these changes.
